GABAM, in collaboration with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (FORTH) in Crete, organized a two-day workshop in Antalya on September 8th and 9th, 2017 bringing together Byzantine archaeologists from Greece and Türkiye. Most participants were young scholars employed in universities, as well as government cultural agencies. The sessions were hosted in the Koç University Suna and İnan Kıraç Research Center for Mediterranean Civilizations (AKMED) in Antalya. The aim of the workshop was to create a forum for people to exchange experiences, speak about methods, procedures and problems arising during archaeological work in both countries, and communicate ideas and plans, establish bridges and create friendships we hope will outlast the workshop. Participants gave brief presentations of their own work in field archaeology (university excavations, rescue excavations, excavations for public infrastructure projects and surveys), restoration of Byzantine monuments, and digital applications in archaeology. In all sessions, there was lively debate and discussion, moderated by senior scholars in the respective fields.
