Twelfth AIECM3 International Congress on Medieval and Modern Period Mediterranean Ceramics



The 12th AIECM3 International Congress on Medieval and Modern Period Mediterranean Ceramics was held in Athens, Greece, 21-27 October 2018. The Congress was held at the University of Athens, the National Hellenic Research Foundation, and the Center for the Study of Modern Pottery, where the welcome reception and a demonstration by a Cretan master potter took place. More than 170 colleagues from 19 countries attended the Congress, and 101 presentations and 60 posters provided an overview of the state of the art in the domain of medieval, Ottoman, and modern period ceramics. Participants also enjoyed an excursion to Thebes and Chalkis where Koç University Associate Professor N. Kontogiannis and his colleagues offered an opportunity to witness a very recent discovery about medieval pottery production. An exhibition on Ottoman and modern European ceramics discovered in the town of Arta took place at the Athens University History Museum attracting the interest of specialists and the public.
