The Consulate General of Greece in Istanbul in collaboration with Koç University Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies (GABAM) has the honour to present an online two-part lecture about the Saint Euphemia Church in Sultanahmet, Istanbul, entitled: “Church of St. Euphemia: Revisiting a Byzantine Monument”
The first part of the lecture, delivered by Prof. Engin Akyürek, Koç University, will present the history of the monument and the life of Saint Euphemia of Chalcedon as represented in the frescoes. He will also give a brief overview of the recent restoration works, conducted between the years 2013-2020.
The second part of the lecture delivered by Ass. Prof. Anastasios Tantsis, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, will focus on the architectural features of the Saint’s martyrium and its transformations through its long period of use.
The lecture will be conducted on Greek and Turkish with Greek-Turkish-English subtitle options.
