Zeynep Ahunbay graduated as an engineer-architect with a master’s degree from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University in 1970. In 1971, she was appointed as an assistant at the Department of Architectural History and Conservation at Istanbul Technical University, where she completed her doctoral studies in 1975. In 1978, she obtained a master's degree in conservation from York University. She served as a faculty member at the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University until her retirement in 2013. In 2017, she received the 16th Vehbi Koç Award for her contributions in her field.
