Koray Durak graduated from the Department of International Relations at Boğaziçi University in 1998. He completed his master's degree in the Department of History at Boğaziçi University in 2001. He received his doctoral degree from the Department of History at Harvard University in 2008. He has been serving as a faculty member in the Department of History at Boğaziçi University since 2008 and is the deputy director of the Boğaziçi University Byzantine Studies Research Center.
