Around the Holy Trinity of Halki: Greek Libraries in Constantinople at the Time of Patriarch Metrophanes III (16th Century)

The conference held in Istanbul, 14-16 October 2015, was devoted to the constitution or reconstitution of Greek libraries in Constantinople and its region in the first two centuries after the fall of Byzantium. The conference focused on the emblematic case of the library embellished in the 16th century by the future patriarch Metrophanes II in the Monastery of the Holy Trinity on the island of Halki in Istanbul. GABAM hosted the second day of the three-day conference at ANAMED. The conference began with a welcome speech by the GABAM’s director and continued with three sessions: “the Patriarchate in the 16th Century and its Monasteries,” “the Patriarchal Library and Libraries of the Patriarchs,” and “Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Athos.” Nine scholars presented papers in these sessions.
