Summer Program in Byzantine Epigraphy

The Summer Program in Byzantine Epigraphy was planned as an interactive academic platform for the collaboration and exchange of ideas among international and Turkish scholars of Byzantine epigraphic culture. Leading specialists in the field were invited to contribute to the Program overall, but the content of the sessions was also geared towards younger scholars, who require instruction and expert guidance in dealing with inscriptional material. The program took place over seven days, fron 3rd to 9th of September, 2018, and included daily seminar presentations, participant-led discussions, practical work in museums and excavation sites, and thematic workshop sessions. The aim was to advance the understanding of Byzantine inscriptional culture and how it contributes to the overall cultural heritage of Istanbul, as well as creating further opportunities for collaborative work in the future.
